SYCAMORE – From a casual conversation with a friend – “It took a pandemic for our house to get remodeled” – the seeds of the Sept. 26 and 27 Refresh worship event at Sycamore United Methodist Church were born.

Refresh is a series of worship experiences based on a book by  Bev Rauch, SUMC music director, titled "Fresh: New Ways of Experiencing God". Every time a chapter is completed, Rauch turns it into a themed celebration service. Previous events include, "The Surprising Power of Imperfection," "The Surprising Power of Letting Go," "Elvis and the Gospel Greats" and "Let Freedom Ring!".

Normally, the Adult Choir and other music groups would be part of the services, but because of the pandemic, music and praise will still happen, but with a twist.

The public is invited to the in-person worship at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, and 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Register to attend by calling the church office at 815-895-9113, as there is limit capacity. Masks must be worn, and social distancing observed. There will be a temperature check at the door.

The services also will be available on Facebook, YouTube and on the church website,, a few days after the event. The church is located at 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore.
