Tweens can celebrate moon landing anniversary

DeKALB – Tweens, ages 9 to 12, are invited to the DeKalb Public Library at 2 p.m. Wednesday for a program honoring the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Kids can read a loaned copy of the book "I Love You, Michael Collins," by Lauren Baratz-Logsted, about a girl in 1969 who becomes the pen pal of Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins, and come prepared to discuss it. During the STEM part of the program, attendees can sample astronaut food (Tang and freeze-dried ice cream,) and participate in a simple rocket experiment.

Each participant will receive a photo from NASA and two lucky winners will receive an autographed copy of the book, "I Love You, Michael Collins."

Registration is required and space is limited. Register at or call the library at 815- 756-9568. Copies of the book will be available in the Youth Services department. This program will be held in the upper level Story & Activity Room.
